Understanding DNA
What is DNA?
DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) is the molecular blueprint of life. It contains the instructions needed for an organism to develop, survive and reproduce. Found in nearly every cell in your body, DNA is passed down from parents to children, carrying genetic information that determines many of our traits. This complex molecule takes the form of a double helix structure, resembling a twisted ladder, where the 'rungs' are made of paired chemical bases. These bases - adenine (A), thymine (T), guanine (G), and cytosine (C) - form a four-letter code that spells out our genetic instructions. Above is very good explanation video by Stated Clearly about DNA.
History of DNA Discovery
- 1869: Friedrich Miescher first identifies 'nuclein' inside cell nuclei
- 1919: Phoebus Levene identifies the components of DNA
- 1944: Oswald Avery proves DNA carries genetic information
- 1952: Rosalind Franklin captures 'Photo 51', revealing DNA's structure
- 1953: Watson and Crick propose the double helix model
- 2003: Human Genome Project completes DNA sequencing

DNA Sequencing & Testing
DNA sequencing is the process of determining the precise order of nucleotides (A, T, G, C) within your DNA molecule. Modern sequencing technologies can read your genetic code quickly and affordably, opening up a world of personal genetic insights.
Health Insights
Discover genetic predispositions to certain conditions and make informed healthcare decisions
Ancestry Discovery
Uncover your ethnic background and connect with relatives you never knew existed
Personalized Medicine
Learn how your body may respond to different medications and treatments
Lifestyle Optimization
Understand how your genes influence diet, exercise, and other lifestyle factors
Understanding your genetic code can help you make better decisions about your health and lifestyle. Modern DNA tests are safe, simple, and can be done from the comfort of your home with just a small saliva sample.
